Club 42 SPECIALIZES in
Breaking Barriers to Learning

Club 42 is not just a place to take a class or do homework. Our goal is to increase student confidence and positive self-concept. Students build skills and relationships, leading to better navigation of school and beyond. Confidence increases as students realize they have the power to positively impact their learning.

Being a member provides consistency for students in a positive environment while learning to organize their assignments and brains. Students are encouraged to collaborate with peers and make contributions to our Club 42 community. This is often key to increasing a child’s self-confidence. Parents are supported through monthly zoom calls (Parent Chat).

Club 42 Programs
And Fun

3-D Printing

Students participate in a guided course to gain knowledge and put into practice basic functions of the 3D design program Tinkercad. (3D printing or additive manufacturing is a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file. An object is printed from a digital file, layer by layer, until the entire object is built.)

Students will work on their 3D designs individually and in groups. Students will begin to see 3D printing as a means of solving everyday problems in imaginative and creative ways. Instead of buying or consuming the creations of someone else they become inventors who can identify needs and create solutions. In a community themselves, students can identify the needs of their surrounding community, leverage their imagination, creativity, and skills to help solve those problems. Some examples could include 3D printing assistive devices such as a water bottle opener or a bag carrier for those that might struggle with fine motor skills, to 3D printing prosthetic arms.

Students will improve their awareness and understanding of people with disabilities while serving their local community. Students will create and donate assistive devices for people with disabilities while incorporating the principles of design thinking, using 3D modeling (CAD) software, and 3D printing for social good.

Reading & Writing
Students participate in structured literacy and phonics based multisensory activities. Repetition and consistency results in mastery of basic skills to build upon.

Once students gain confidence in their skills, they can enjoy reading and writing more!

Research estimates that 40-45% of students require code-based, systematic and explicit instruction to learn to read/spell and write proficiently. We don’t have to wait until children struggle to give them the tools they need to access reading along with their peers.

Games will be incorporated for fun and enhanced learning. Simple activities to complete at home will enrich the learning experience. Students will master basic skills necessary to become confident readers and writers.

Learning Lab (Homework help)
Guided work sessions where students work independently, collaborate with peers and get basic questions answered in a structured setting. Students learn to prioritize school assignments and related tasks while determining what strategies work best for them. Students will be guided to prepare for assignments by processing instructions, breaking big tasks into small steps, monitoring progress and using resources along the way.

Many students believe they are inherently deficient in academic subjects (especially Math) and organizational skills. This causes lack of motivation, attention and increased procrastination. Actually, for most students this is not accurate.

Students have not been taught strategies that work for their brain and life. Once identified, these tools need to be automated to become as routine as brushing teeth (or so we hope this is the case!)

The Club 42 Learning Lab is designed to give students the structure and guidance necessary to try out different strategies. Confidence increases as students realize they have the power to positively impact their learning. Repetition and consistency are key to building these skills as lifelong tools.

Pop up Workshops
These small groups are designed to provide focused instruction in topics that students need additional support or have a specific interest in exploring. Conceptual understanding is a priority. Parents and students will be surveyed to provide topics of interest.

Potential Topics:

● Long division
● C
reating storyboards
● Book clubs
● Board games
● Probability
● Multiplication tables
● Fractions

Many subjects, especially math basics are often difficult for students to fully grasp and adequately practice before moving on to the next topic. In Pop-up Workshops, concepts are presented from multiple perspectives to create that ah-ha moment for individual students. It’s often just a fresh way of approaching a topic that makes the difference for students.

Major League members receive priority registration and one workshop per month is included. Minor League members may register at $30 per workshop.

Seasonal Topics:
● Back to School
● Science Projects
● College Apps
● History Day
● Planning for Midterms/Finals
● Focused courses to meet families needs
● Presentation skills
● Google 101
● Project planning
